Gambling in Places Other than a Casino

You can gamble in a church, at a festival, in a bus, at a friend’s house, or just about anywhere you like.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind.  First of all, regarding church gambling:  remember, the proceeds go to the church.  In your mind, this should be a GOOD thing – as, if you lose, you will not feel quite as bad if you are contributing to a good cause.  The same applies to festivals – you will usually be made aware of what organization will benefit from proceeds taken in.  At churches and festivals, you may expect games ranging from “Over and Under” to the “Wheel of Fortune” to Blackjack, Poker and Instant Bingo  tickets

Much fun can be had by gambling on a tour bus on the way to your casino destination.  What better way to start off a junket than to win a little pot of cash with which to begin?

A friendly Poker game at home is always fun, just keep in mind politeness and proper etiquette. You do not wish for your Poker buddies to become lifelong enemies.  By all means, share food and drink costs, and clean-up duties as well.

SLOT MACHINES – TODAY’S WONDER

Fast-forward one-hundred twenty-five years from the gun-slinging American Old West and the glittering “Iron Case” slot machines and enter 2011 jaw-dropping theme casino.

Once again, (and maybe we never stopped)…..  We are still awed by this little machine.  We cannot seem to get to them fast enough.  We jet, we drive, and we hustle onto crowded buses.  Note that we are no longer carrying our coin bags, but a wallet full of regular bills, ready to feed our fun.

Little blue-haired, burly men and excited Baby Boomers fight for seats in the casino during crowded time periods.  There is no certain demographic that populates the Slot Arena.

Listening to the bells, whistles, shouts, and clamor, we can barely recognize the jazzy video wonders that have evolved, yet they provide the same thrill.

Now we go deeper into our fantasy as we collect extra “spins”, whoop at our jackpot of “credits” and enter the “bonus world”.  Video bonuses take you into a game, exclusive to the type of slot machine you are playing.  Certain spins land you in this coveted zone, and the fun really starts here.  So do the credits, as they rack up with each choice you make during your bonus round.

We sit in a comfortable chair, feeding in our Player’s Reward Card, and our money, dreaming of Megamillions and the sleek red car spinning on the top of our slot machines.

The Penny Slot is no longer the Penny Slot – Right now it has taken over in the casino to become one of the most popular machines.  It is, of course, electronic, and allows you to play MANY more “lines” than quarter or dollar machines without going broke.  What will the next decade bring us in slots?  Stay tuned…

Coping with Gambling Addictions

A gambling addiction occurs when an individual obsessively and uncontrollably gambles, even when gambling would cause negative consequences to himself and his family. Online gambling sites have made gambling easier than ever before, and gambling addictions can become worse when the addict has the opportunity to gamble from the comfort of his home.

If your family member or loved one is suffering from an online gambling addiction, it can be extremely difficult. It’s important to remember that recovery is a difficult—yet not impossible—process. And, as your loved one is recovering from the addiction, it’s important that you take the time to deal with your feelings too. Here are a few ways to cope with living with a gambling addict.

Avoid supporting the addiction. You may be supporting the addiction in ways you don’t even know. Never give the addict money to further his gambling habit. Avoid lying or giving excuses for his behavior.

Advocate for addiction recovery. This can be difficult, because many addicts are in denial of the problem. Nevertheless, be fervent in your efforts to push the addict toward recovery. Offer to help him on his road to recovery, and direct him to groups like Gambler’s Anonymous.

Take care of yourself. You may be caught up in the addict’s problems, but never forget to take care of yourself as well. This includes avoiding the impulse to blame yourself for your loved one’s gambling habit. You may also want to read up on gambling addictions to be sure you fully understand the disease. Seek help from GamAnon, a group that assists the loved ones of gambling addicts.

Symptoms and Treatments of Gambling Addictions

A gambling addiction, also called compulsive gambling or pathological gambling, is an impulse control problem in which a person is addicted to betting on sports, buying lottery tickets, playing slot machines, playing poker, roulette or another activity that involves winning and losing money. Gambling addicts’ venues of choice vary; while some prefer to gamble in a casino, others choose to gamble on the Internet.

Gambling addictions affect roughly 2 to 5 percent of individuals in the United States. Although the addiction is typically affiliated with men, women are developing gambling addictions at increasingly higher rates; some statistics indicate that as many as 25 percent of individuals with the disorder are women. Those with schizophrenia, antisocial personality disorder, alcohol or cocaine addiction and mood problems are the most at risk for developing a gambling addiction.

Symptoms of gambling addictions include having a preoccupation with gambling—like reliving past gambling experiences—needing more money to fulfill a gambling habit, gambling to alleviate stress and sadness, lying to friends and family to hide how often the sufferer is gambling and repeatedly failing to alleviate a gambling problem.

General gambling addictions mean that individuals engage in excessive gambling behavior to point that it affects their livelihood. There are, however, subsets of the disorder. For instance, binge gambling involves excessive gambling for brief periods of time.

There is no standardized treatment for gambling addictions, and interventions only produce a disappointing 8 percent one-year abstinence rate on average. Nevertheless, gamblers and loved ones of gamblers should seek help from the group Gamblers’ Anonymous. When combined with psychotherapy—specifically cognitive behavioral treatment—from a professional, the success rates improve drastically.

6 Tips for Finding a Reputable Sportsbook

There are many online sportsbooks available on the Internet. Trying to select which one to use can be a daunting task. Here are 6 tips for finding the right sportsbook for you.

1. Talk to your friends that use sportsbooks. See which ones they use. Ask them why they like them. Find out why they like them and what the positive characteristics of the business and their experience with them.

2. Read sportsbook reviews online.   You will find many reviews by people who have used one previously.  Do not be dissuaded by one bad review if the company has many good reviews.  Often a person might just have had a bad day and felt like complaining.  So read all the reviews before making a choice.

3. Research the financial stability of the sportsbooks that you are interested in. If you can’t find very much information about the sportsbook, it is possible that it is fairly new and doesn’t have much background information about it.   Look for one that has many years under its belt as that often indicates that it is a good business.

4. Check out the betting options, the range of sports and the limits. The wider range of sports to select from the better. If the sportsbook offers a wide range, most likely they will have the sport that you are interested in. Also, check out their limits. How small of a bet can you place? Are you limited on how much you can bet? Know this information before you use their services.

5. What type of customer service does the sportsbook have? Do they have a telephone number that you can call? Do they have 24/7 customer service? Do they provide live online chat?

6. Check out the bonuses that a service provides. Generally, there is a 20% free play for new accounts. Some places will have bonuses and promotions throughout the year. They might even have a loyalty program where you can accumulate points.

Treatment for Gambling Addiction

The best thing that you can do for yourself and your family is admit that you have a gambling addiction. If you have made the step and admitted that you have a problem, you have already fought a large battle. The next step is to seek help. There are several ways that you can get help but the one that will help the most is joining a support group.

There is a support group that is specifically designed to help with gambling addiction and that is Gamblers Anonymous. The group is made of a twelve-step recovery plan which is very similar to Alcoholics Anonymous. For many people, coping with their addiction is possible because they have chosen the best sponsor themselves. Their sponsor is a person who has been through the program and was once and compulsive gambler themselves. They understand the trails and how hard it is to give up gambling. They are available for to you call anytime day or night.

Another option for treatment is getting therapy. The type of therapy for gambling is called cognitive behavioral therapy. This therapy focuses on changing the habits that are associated with gambling like urges to gamble, the way you rationalize your behavior to allow yourself to gamble, and false beliefs about your gambling. The therapy will help you to fight the urge to gamble and teach you how to avoid getting into a situation where you could be tempted to gamble again. The focus of the therapy is to help you manage you life without gambling. It teaches you to continue living without the urge to gamble.

The last part of any recovery program is maintaining recovery for life. Many people find that quitting gambling or any addictive behavior is easier than never doing it against. It is important to surround yourself with people who support your decision to not gamble and say goodbye to anyone who tempts you to lose control.

Gambling Statistics in Casinos

Casinos have held our attention since their invention. The glitz and the glamour of a casino keeps people coming back for more. There is also the desire to win a big prize. No matter what you like to play within a casino, you need to be realistic. Your chances of winning are slim to none.

The best way to think about gambling is as a form of entertainment. It is fun while you have money in your hand but when that money is gone, the entertainment is over. Realistically, if every person who gambled won something, how would casinos make any money. The simple fact is, they make money because people do not win.

Unless you are playing black jack, a common casino card game where the odds change with every hand, the odds of your winning a game are pretty consistent no matter which game you are playing. You may not want to hear it but casino games are fixed so that they house, or the casino wins a certain percentage of the games you pay, and that percentage is pretty high.

This does not mean that you will never win. If there were no winners, people would never go the casinos. Therefore, the best way that you can limit your losses is to make sure you understand how to play the game before you begin to play. That way you will understand if you are making a good bet or not. Also know what are good bets and what are bad bets and stay away from bets that are to high.

However much you gamble, you need to remember that for the most part you are destined to lose. The casino has to make money and that ensure that you are going to lose no matter how long you sit at a machine and no matter how much money you put into it. There are no ways to ensure that you will win except to play the game well.

Your Odds of Winning at Gambling

If you play the slot machines, your dream is to hit it big. You would just love to see the pictures line up and you hit the big jack pot. However, the chances of that actually happening are pretty slim. First of all, you need to realize that when you walk into a casino, the odds are already with the casino. The machines may look all shiny and inviting by they are programed to take your money eight-three to ninety-nine percent of the time, which means you lose.

Even if the slot machines that you are looking at look exactly the same, they are completely different machines. It is not the same as putting the quarter in one gum ball machine instead of the other. With any gum ball machine you will get a gum ball, with slot machines, you could be getting an entirely different machine. Machines are run by microchip that processes a series of random numbers even when the slot machine looks like it is not being played. These machines have billions of combinations, so the odds of you hitting the jackpot are pretty slim.

This processor that runs the machines is controlled to make sure that you lose a good percentage of the time. Therefore, when you are playing and you finally see those pictures stop in place, you are really seeing the will of the machine. You are seeing the machine give your money back to the casino. Before you even begin to play the outcome of your spin is already set in place. Therefore, it does not matter how long you have been sitting there, what matters is what the processor is thinking at that exact moment.

All this means that they way that you pick a machine has absolutely not basis in whether you will win or lose. If you are noticing that a machine has been played all day with no wins, that machine is not due for a win. It just means that the processor is coming up with combinations that are not a payoff.
